Amaryllis
Currently Blooming - Amaryllis
high winds today are knocking down the Amaryllis providing the opportunity to cut armfuls of flowers.
**after Christmas sales are a great opportunity to pick up these bulbs cheap. In my climate zone, I am able to plant the bulbs and leave them in the ground all year long. They multiply fast and are quite resilient. I have moved the bulbs with every relocation. This move I didn't have time or a place to plant them and I forgot about the bulbs for about 2 months. When I opened the box some of the bulbs were starting to flower, so I quickly popped them in the ground. This fall I will move them to a place that is more protected from the wind. Even with the neglect, they are rewarding me with a magnificent flower show.
WOW I love amaryllis..and you're right about the sales too...ahh to plant something again...one day...
Our amaryllis bloom closer to Christmas...is it odd that yours are coming up this late?

These are goooorgeous!! Remember the scene in Dr. Zhivago when Lara leaves the house where she and the good Doctor have been tending the wounded, and all the sunflowers are shedding their petals on the table? I thought of that -- also I like your tablecloth.

Oh oh oh........heart stopping beauty!
there are some near me- down the street at a beauty shop - that bloom every year. Seem to do quite well in the ground in warm places like ours. I predict your garden will be stunning in a few years!

I LOVE amaryllis!! I wish they would grow in the ground here, I would plant a whole bed of them! Do they last long as cut flowers?
I buy the cheap bulbs at Christmas and have an indoor show, I am glad that I can at least do that...

These flowers are so old fashioned and graceful! I wish I could grow them here! What gorgeous photographs you have created! The old vase filled with pink amaryllis is very sweet. Roxanne
