Is A&E coming to film an episode of "Hoarders" in my house?
No, but I think I may qualify at first glance. There are rows of fabric and paper stacked behind every piece of furniture.
My dining room table has stacks of vintage photos and postcards and a towering column of 12 by 12 paper. See the blue toolbox, the table is my new work space.
The day after finishing a total bathroom demolition and re-model, I decided my studio could use a new wood floor. Up came the carpet and down will go a wood floor that is much better suited for a studio. It is amazing how much stuff can come out of one room. The studio has a walk in closet that I had four large industrial metal shelving units and now I realize how much they held.
so for now all my junk is in the back entryway (above) and lined around the living areas of my house. My goal is to get the floor down by the end of next weekend. Then the task of moving it all back in starts.
Be sure to watch my Etsy shop in the next couple of weeks, because I will be sorting through and selling lots of stuff.
For now I am working at my kitchen table and was able to make one page in my altered book. Next up, a kitchen remodel and then I am done...or....
the next altered book was de-constructed a few months ago I removed all the pages and glued a few together, wiped on some gesso the plan is to sew all the pages back in the original cover when completed I also wanted to include some of the original illustrations and some paint on the finsihed pages one page started no theme in mind for this book but it looks like it's becoming a tea party
So won't you come over and stay for tea if you do, I will make a grilled cream cheese sandwich using this chocolate cherry bread I made today
With each year, I am slowly decreasing the size of the grassy area around my house. Buying plants would be the quickest easiest way to do this, but that is also the most expensive way. Since I don't have a big pocketbook for buying plants, last fall I took a bucket load of cuttings from the Spanish Lavender plants that I had. The little cuttings wintered over in the greenhouse and I ended up with 53 pots of well rooted baby lavenders. I am so excited about that but it also means I have 53 plants to start putting in the ground.
This picture is the first bloom on one of my baby lavenders that I started from a cutting. Rooting lavender cuttings was also a first for me last year. When I realized how easy it is, I wondered why I had never tried before.
Anyway, my baby just woke from her winter nap and is blooming and I am as proud as any mama can be.
I have just added this stitched patchwork journal to my Etsy shop. for more information and pictures - click here If you would like to make your own, be sure and check out my "Wall Calendar Journal Class". Click on the class button on the top left column of this blog.
I must plant more of these creeping phlox a blooming surprise this year Last year, I had rescued several plants from the discount and dying plant rack at the hardware store. They were past their prime, so I had no idea of color. Color doesn't matter in the rock garden. In the secret garden, the roses are fluffing their skirts getting ready to put on their show.
It's hard to stay inside with perfect weather tempting me away from the studio table.
the last pages of the Alice Altered Book maybe I should have called the book "Recycled Alice" an old discarded library book, magazine pictures and other old book recycled images the last finish to the book was clipping in movie tickets from "Alice". The movie was fun and I enjoyed it. The cover, I left rather plain with just a couple of images, one that wraps around the spine and a couple of tiny mice.
It's been a delightful voyage Godspeed and fair thee well 'til we meet again, Alice.
every once in awhile I work on a journal that turns out to be a beast sometimes it is the size that doesn't work for me or it can be the paper I chose this journal has been one of those difficult journals to finish with only a few more page sets to finish but I keep pushing it aside to work on something else so yesterday, I decided to just mess around with paint and get some of the last pages to at least a background stage and maybe closer to finishing
because sometimes all it takes is a bit of playing with paint and a difficult book will finish itself
What I think would be really amazing is if I could take the digital elements I use in Photo shop and use them as quickly and easily in my visual journal. I know I can print out stuff and use all the transfer techniques available. But I want to do it with just a click of the mouse. To be able to something like this a quick little digital play that I made this morning
if you would like to download this digital image, click on the file below you can print it to use in your project my appreciation for my blog readers
