Things I learned on this upcycled jacket project:
- how much I like working with wool
- how much I dislike working with leather
- that's its fun to work on something when you don't have to worry about ruining expensive fabric
- that a plan or a sketch would have made things easier...maybe
Since I had the completed button leather front, this jacket was a kind of reverse construction.
No plan or pattern, I just started cutting fabric and piecing it in.
This is where I am ending for the day.
I have one sleeve set and some how I guessed correctly when I was cutting it.
Next up, I will make a collar from the tweed and add a leather band at the sleeve cuff.
And I still have to block the leather and steam the wool just a bit.
Still not sure what to do with the bottom edge. I will probably just hem it up as I am out of the leather and the tweed.
It would have been nice to have enough to do some sort of peplum, even with piecing scraps there isn't enough.
I will leave the hem until the last and maybe something will come to me.
Wow-you did that without a plan???? I am amazed-it looks beautiful-But how do you block leather?

Got any solid colored wool in a color from the tweed? Use it for the trims here and there - cuffs, collar, hem - to tie it together. Just a thought...
