French Punk

while waiting for the fabric to arrive from my next French inspired jacket (see last post)

I made this jacket.
Kind of a Guerilla Chanel made with bits and pieces of mens shirts.

I added a mix of batting, interfacing and other materials to give the shirting fabric more heft. Some of it is just layers and layers of fabric. The jacket is quite substancial.

the back may not be finished, it's a bit plain.
I have learned the hard way not to over work the back because it can get painful when sitting in a chair or riding in a car with too much stuff on the back.

I wanted this to be a casual wearable jacket.

A very cheap jacket to make since it is mostly scraps.
The trim I pulled off a sofa that had been set to the curb, well washed of course after I brought it home. I wove elastic through the loops to give it more bulk.

Salvaged buttons with lions heads on them.

I cut up this giant caftan for the lining.  Is that the correct term - caftan. Or should it just be called an enormous garment that really should have never been produced.

and what exactly is a "free size"



So here a bunch of pictures, I don't feel like chatting aimlessly and we know it's all about the pictures anyway.

I was surprised how flattering it is espcially with just a t shirt and skinny jeans.  My husband who typically hates this type of clothing even remarked on how much he likes this jacket.

I like this one a lot - all those black stripes work together really well and it looks kinda dressy even tho it's all patched and tatty. Love the ruffle around the bottom and the bit of color on the pockets. Nice!
