My very last UFO. This is a quilt top that I made back in 1984 and never finished. I remember designing it and feeling very creative in the design but then never finished it. I think I didn't finish it because I didn't know how to quilt it. At the time, I was hand quilting and it just had me stumped, so I put it away. A few times I would pull this top out but as the years went by I find it rather ugly, mostly the colors of black, gray, pink and burgundy....
Now I look at it and I love all the big negative spaces and have all kinds of ideas for quilting. The colors still are rather unappealing but I have always liked the modern design. I may even make another top in this pattern but with more appealing fabric choices.
When I show anyone this quilt top, I get quite a bit of teasing, mostly "1984 called and they want their quilt top back" but don't you think there is something about it that fits in to todays modern quilt movement?
The top has a bit of fullness so I will use a higher loft batting to help work out the floaters but I am impressed with my piecing as the points all match up nicely and the circle is perfectly round. The fabric...what can I say other than it was the 80's and fabric quality isn't what we can get in today's solids, so that might make the longarm quilting interesting.
But it's loaded on the longarm and I will share pictures as I progress with it.
If anyone has suggestions as to quilting or thread choices, I would love to hear from you.
And best of all it's my last unfinished project.
