The impossibly small men's wingtip shoes that I found last week, the ones that fit me perfectly - well they seemed just a bit too boring and too ordinary - just a bit on the wrong side of cool men's wear for women.
Originally, I used some neon orange nail polish in the wingtip holes but the orange with the black shoe looked too much like Halloween Carnival. The nail polish was drying too fast and getting thick so I switched to acrylic paint, this time in a bright lime green.
I dotted just the rows around the top front of the shoe and didn't dot the heels. Sometimes it's hard to know when to stop and I think dotting the heels would have been too much.
As tempting as it was to add a neon green ribbon tie, again too much of a good thing - I added salvaged tie from some forgotten piece of clothing that I cut up at some point. The mossy green color plays off the neon nicely and gives it a more muted and not freak show clown look.
I love them now and what a great pair of shoes for a couple of dollars.
Plus, it's easy to change the look with a different color of paint and ribbon ties. I am thinking that a super wide ivory ribbon or old lace would be equally fun.
Yes, old lace would be perfect for a urban prairie look.
